Congratulations to Nicole Stout DPT, CLT-LANA, FAPTA, for being awarded the Susan Mellette Award for outstanding leadership in cancer rehabilitation. Nicole is a vital member of the Oncology Section and has helped shape the current landscape of oncology rehabilitation.
Nicole L. Stout DPT, CLT-LANA, FAPTA
Dr. Nicole L. Stout is a renowned health care researcher, consultant, educator, and advocate. She is the Chief Executive Officer of 3e Services, an information technology consulting firm. Nicole advises executive clients in policy, research, and market strategies that enable greater and more sophisticated use of technology for operational improvements. She is also a medical affairs consultant for health information technology and biotech firms. Her clients include industry leaders in health care technology, pharmaceuticals, aviation, and education in the US and abroad. Additionally, she supports the Office of Strategic Research at the National Institutes of Health, Rehabilitation Medicine Department leading the Cancer Rehabilitation Initiative.
Dr. Stout is an internationally recognized expert and leader in cancer rehabilitation and lymphedema. She has given over 200 lectures nationally and internationally, authored and co-authored over 50 peer-review and invited publications, several book chapters, and is the co-author of the book 100 Questions and Answers about Lymphedema. Her research publications have been foundational in developing the Prospective Surveillance Model for breast cancer rehabilitation.
Dr. Stout is the recipient of numerous research and publication awards. She has received service awards from the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, the Navy Surgeon General, and the Oncology Section of the American Physical Therapy Association and was recently selected as a Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association.
She holds appointments on the American Lymphedema Framework steering committee and is a federal appointee can co-chair of the Veterans Administration Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Research and Development Service Merit Review Board. She is the current chair of the Oncology Specialty Council of the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and serves as the co-chair for the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine’s Cancer Networking Group Education Taskforce. Dr. Stout is a past member of the American Physical Therapy Association Board of Directors and past secretary of the board of directors for the Lymphology Association of North America and the National Lymphedema Network.
Dr. Stout received her Bachelor of Science from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in 1994, received her Master of Physical Therapy degree from Chatham University in 1998 and a clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Massachusetts General Institute of Health Professions in 2013. She has a post graduate certificate in Health Policy from the George Washington University School of Public Health. She is also Six Sigma certified and a Certified Health Data Analyst.
